September 6, 1965: Nation Salutes the Bravehearts Who Sacrificed Their Lives on the Akhnoor Front

On the sixth day of the September 1965 Indo-Pak war, five courageous Pakistan Army officers wrote remarkable stories of bravery on the front in occupied Kashmir that continue to inspire the nation to this day. Defending the motherland, these distinguished sons of the soil confronted the enemy with extraordinary courage, embraced martyrdom and demonstrated that no military power can stand before the strength of faith and determination.

In the bloody battles fought on the Akhnoor, Jaurian and Chhamb fronts, these officers made the ultimate sacrifice, further strengthening the defence of the country.

Immortal Stories of Courage

On the sixth day of the war, the officers who attained the revered status of martyrdom while displaying exceptional bravery in direct combat became part of a glorious chapter in military history.

Major Fakhar Alam Khan Shaheed: Fighting fiercely against the enemy on the Akhnoor front, Major Fakhar Alam Khan single-handedly captured 14 enemy artillery guns, delivering a major blow to their defensive capabilities. During the intense battle, his tank was hit by an enemy shell, and he embraced martyrdom.

Captain Khalid Hameed Lodhi Shaheed: After raising the flag of victory on the Taroti and Jaurian fronts, the brave officer advanced with full force toward his ultimate objective, Akhnoor. During the advance, he came under enemy fire and sacrificed his life for the homeland.

Major Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed: Advancing rapidly toward Akhnoor while breaking through enemy lines, Major Sarwar’s tank was struck by a shell. The tank caught fire, and he embraced martyrdom.

Captain Islam Ahmed Khan Shaheed: At Devipur near the town of Akhnoor in occupied Kashmir, Captain Islam Ahmed Khan stood like an unbreakable wall against the enemy and fought courageously until his last breath before sacrificing his life for the homeland.

Major Muhammad Munir Khan Shaheed: This courageous officer inflicted heavy pressure on the enemy near Najla Chak. During the battle, he was hit by a burst from an anti-tank rifle and attained martyrdom.

Names Written in Golden Letters of History

These five martyrs remain living examples of the Pakistan Army’s unwavering commitment to the homeland and its willingness to make the ultimate sacrifice in its defence. The names of Captain Islam Ahmed Khan, Major Fakhar Alam Khan, Major Muhammad Munir Khan, Major Muhammad Sarwar and Captain Khalid Hameed Lodhi will forever be remembered in the history of the 1965 war, while their courage will continue to serve as a guiding light for generations to come.
