Record Growth in Pakistan-China Trade Through Khunjerab Pass, Rs15 Billion Revenue Collected

Islamabad: Trade activity between Pakistan and China through the Khunjerab Pass has witnessed significant growth, with Pakistan Customs collecting a record Rs15 billion in revenue from imports from China during the 2025–26 fiscal year. The figure represents a notable increase from the Rs13.67 billion collected during the previous fiscal year.

Pakistani products worth Rs2.8 billion were also exported to China and Central Asian countries through the land route.

TIR System Boosts Exports

According to Pakistan Customs officials, the effective implementation of the Transport International Routiers (TIR) system has been a key factor behind the increase in trade volume.

The internationally recognized system facilitates faster, safer and more efficient movement of goods across international borders.

Major Export Products

Key Pakistani products exported through the Khunjerab route include:

• Industrial and traditional goods: Surgical instruments, readymade garments, leather products and carpets.
• Agricultural products: Basmati rice, fresh fruits and vegetables.
• Cultural products: Pakistani handicrafts and traditional craft items.

Measures Against Smuggling and Faster Clearance

Customs authorities have strengthened joint inspections and monitoring at the border to curb illegal trade and ensure transparent clearance procedures.

The combination of digital and physical monitoring has helped speed up customs clearance while creating new opportunities for Pakistani exports to regional and international markets.
