The meeting also reviewed preparations for local government elections in Quetta.

ECP officials informed participants that the tenure of local governments in the provincial capital expired on January 27, 2019. Since then, the commission has completed two rounds of delimitation and issued three election schedules, but elections could not be held.

Officials said delimitation work has now been completed and the commission is ready to conduct local government elections. The election schedule may be announced during the second week of June 2026.

The chief secretary told the meeting that the issue would be presented before the provincial cabinet to decide on the possibility of holding elections in view of the prevailing security situation.

The ECP directed the provincial government to formally convey its position so that the electoral process could move forward in accordance with the law.
