Pakistan’s Seafood Exports Witness Historic Growth, Surpassing $560 Million for the First Time

Pakistan’s seafood exports reached a historic level of $568 million during fiscal year 2025-26, crossing the $500 million mark for the first time.

According to figures released by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, the country’s seafood exports recorded a significant 38% increase over the past two years. In fiscal year 2023-24, the total value of seafood exports stood at $406 million, which increased to $568 million in the latest fiscal year.

Frozen fish remained the leading export commodity, generating more than $105 million in foreign exchange. Frozen squid, cuttlefish, fish meal, shrimp and prawns also remained important components of Pakistan’s seafood exports. Pakistani seafood continues to be exported to major international markets, including China, Japan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and the United States.

According to the ministry, strict compliance with food safety requirements and international standards has enabled Pakistan to access new markets. Moreover, following the restrictions imposed by the European Union in 2007, Pakistani seafood products are now gradually restoring their traditional position and confidence in the European market.

Economic experts believe that if greater focus is placed on value-added seafood products instead of traditional exports, the sector’s total exports could potentially reach $3 billion annually. This would not only strengthen Pakistan’s blue economy but also create extensive employment opportunities in coastal areas.
