Pakistan Receives Global Honour for Successful Issuance of Sustainable Panda Bond

Islamabad: Pakistan has received a global honour at the Asia Pacific Climate Bonds Awards 2026 for the historic and successful issuance of its Sustainable Sovereign Panda Bond. The international recognition is being described as a significant indication of the country’s economic recovery and financial stability.

According to Finance Minister’s Adviser Khurram Shehzad, Pakistan issued its first Sustainable Panda Bond worth 1.75 billion Chinese yuan in May 2026. The three-year bond was launched with a coupon rate of 2.5 percent and attracted exceptional interest from international investors, with demand exceeding the issued amount by more than five times.

The Finance Adviser said the funds raised through the bond are being utilized for sustainable and socially beneficial projects in the water, renewable energy and healthcare sectors.

He further said that the successful issuance of the Panda Bond has laid a strong foundation for taking Pakistan-China financial cooperation to new heights, promoting international investment and creating new opportunities for sustainable development in the region.

According to economic experts, following CPEC, the strategic partnership between the two countries is now being further strengthened in capital markets and the private sector as well.
