The Government of Pakistan has approved the export of donkey meat from the Gwadar North Free Zone, subject to the import regulations of destination countries, following recommendations by a special committee and a decision by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC).
During the review process, officials noted that China’s General Administration of Customs (GACC) does not permit the import of donkey meat produced before January 16, 2026. Most participants agreed that Pakistan’s exports are already governed by the import policies of receiving countries, making separate ECC approval unnecessary for products manufactured before that date.
However, participants observed that if restrictions exist on the export of donkey meat to countries other than China, particularly in relation to Export Processing Zones (EPZs), the summary should have included proposed amendments to the relevant provisions.
After detailed deliberations on the committee’s recommendations regarding the export of donkey meat and hides from the Gwadar Donkey Slaughter House, approval was granted to allow exports from Gwadar North Free Zone strictly in line with the import policies of destination countries.
Sources added that the federal cabinet had earlier endorsed the ECC’s decision following certain informal developments.
