Pakistan and DR Congo Sign Historic Defence Cooperation Agreement

Rawalpindi: Pakistan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) have signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at expanding bilateral defence and security cooperation.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), a high-level delegation from the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, led by Chief of Defence Lieutenant General Banza Mwilambwe Jules, visited General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. The visiting delegation was presented with a Guard of Honour upon arrival.

Key Defence Discussions Held at GHQ

During the meeting, both sides discussed matters of mutual interest, the regional security situation and new avenues for bilateral defence cooperation. The two sides expressed satisfaction with their longstanding cordial relations and signed an MoU to formalise and strengthen defence collaboration.

Expanded Defence Cooperation: Pakistan and the DRC agreed to promote training, professional exchanges and institutional cooperation between their armed forces.

Regional Peace and Stability: Both sides discussed ways to share experiences and strengthen cooperation in support of regional security and stability.

Pakistan’s Defence Self-Reliance Appreciated: The Congolese delegation appreciated Pakistan’s progress in defence production and its efforts toward greater self-reliance.

Separate Meetings with Naval and Air Chiefs

Before the high-level meeting at GHQ, Lieutenant General Banza Mwilambwe Jules also held separate meetings with Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu.

The meetings explored potential avenues for enhanced cooperation in the naval and air domains, further broadening the scope of defence relations between Pakistan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
