Only electric buses and motorcycles to be procured for future official use: Prime Minister

Islamabad (Balochistan News Desk) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired an important meeting on energy conservation, where the country’s energy needs, savings, and future strategy were discussed in detail.

The prime minister stated that energy conservation has now become a key part of national planning, adding that despite the current regional situation, timely measures have helped the country avoid any major crisis.

He directed authorities to accelerate work on establishing strategic reserves of crude oil to ensure energy availability during emergencies.

During the meeting, emphasis was placed on promoting environmentally friendly electric transport for energy efficiency and sustainable development. Shehbaz Sharif instructed that in the future, only electric buses and motorcycles should be purchased for official use, and efforts to establish electric charging stations should be expedited.

Additionally, he directed that battery storage systems be facilitated to store surplus electricity generated from solar energy, and encouraged the local production of high-quality batteries.

During the briefing, it was shared that the national energy situation is being monitored daily, while the country has sufficient reserves of petroleum products and local production of gas and oil is increasing.

Work is also underway on two pilot projects for grid-level battery storage, while households using solar energy are being encouraged to adopt battery systems.

Federal ministers and senior officials attended the meeting and discussed ongoing initiatives and future strategies in the energy sector.
