Modern MRO Centre and Flight Simulator Planned at Islamabad Airport
Islamabad: In a historic development aimed at making Pakistan’s aviation sector self-reliant, work has begun on the country’s first Aircraft Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) centre and a modern flight simulator at Islamabad International Airport, in line with European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) standards.
These major projects have been planned under the Ministry of Defence’s Aviation Sector Transformation Programme. The Pakistan Airports Authority is providing administrative support, while the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) is responsible for regulatory oversight and supervision.
Key Details of the Projects
Specialised MRO Centre to Be Established by Nortec
Private aviation services company Nortec is establishing a specialised MRO centre at Islamabad International Airport.
Aircraft Maintenance: The facility will provide technical maintenance and repair services for several commercial aircraft, including the Airbus A318 and A319.
Pilot Training: State-of-the-art flight simulators will also be installed to train pilots according to international aviation standards.
Airblue’s Modern Hangar and Simulator Project
Airblue Limited is also constructing a modern aircraft maintenance hangar at Islamabad International Airport.
Weather Protection and Commercial Services: The hangar will protect aircraft, technical staff and equipment from severe weather conditions. It will also offer local overhaul and maintenance services to other commercial airlines.
Flight Training Centre: Airblue is expected to formally launch a modern flight training centre equipped with a full-flight simulator by April 2027.
National and Regional Importance

Reduced Foreign Dependence: Local servicing and overhaul facilities for commercial aircraft will reduce Pakistan’s reliance on foreign countries.
Improved Technical Expertise: Pakistani engineers and pilots will receive internationally recognised training within the country.
