Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Congratulates Newly Promoted Four-Star General

Islamabad: Lieutenant General Syed Amir Raza (HI(M)) has been promoted to the rank of four-star General and appointed Commander National Strategic Command, according to an official government announcement. The appointment is expected to further strengthen Pakistan's national defence and strategic capabilities.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated General Amir Raza on his promotion and new assignment, expressing confidence that he would discharge his national responsibilities with professionalism and dedication.

General Amir Raza's Military Career and Educational Background

General Amir Raza has served in the Pakistan Army for decades, holding a number of key command, staff, and instructional appointments.

Commission and Command Experience

  • Commissioned into the Pakistan Army's 6 Lancers regiment in 1988.
  • Commanded 6 Lancers from November 2007 to September 2009.
  • Later commanded an Armoured Brigade, an Infantry Brigade in South Waziristan, and an Infantry Division.

Academic Qualifications

  • Graduate of the Command and Staff College, Quetta, and the National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad.
  • Holds a Master's degree in International Relations from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom.
  • Earned MSc degrees in Warfare and Defence & Strategic Studies from NDU Islamabad.

Staff and Instructional Appointments

  • Served as Brigade Major, GSO-2 at the Chief of General Staff Branch, Chief of Staff of a Strike Corps, and Director General Weapons & Equipment Directorate.
  • Also served as Director of Four Aids and Chief Instructor at Command and Staff College, Quetta.

Previous Senior Responsibilities

  • Appointed Chairman Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) on 28 April 2020.
  • Promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General on 11 October 2022.

Role as Commander National Strategic Command

As Commander National Strategic Command, General Amir Raza will oversee key strategic and defence institutions. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed confidence that his extensive experience and leadership would further strengthen Pakistan's strategic defence capabilities.
