After completing his education, Captain Karnal Sher Khan joined the Pakistan Army through a commissioned officer program and began his military career with the Sindh Regiment. During the Kargil conflict, he was deployed to one of the most challenging sectors along the Line of Control (LoC).

His counterattack inflicted significant losses on the opposing force before he was fatally wounded during the engagement and embraced martyrdom alongside several of his comrades.

Captain Karnal Sher Khan's courage earned admiration even from across the battlefield. His bravery was acknowledged by an Indian Army brigadier, making his case one of the rare instances where an opposing military commander publicly recognized the gallantry of a fallen adversary.
