Karachi: Under reforms initiated by the Prime Minister’s Task Force, a major project has been prepared to restore the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and Pipri railway link to make cargo transportation across the country faster and more efficient.

Under the mega project, a dedicated 52-kilometre dual-track railway line will be laid to modernize the railway and port infrastructure. Through the new railway link, containers will be transported from the ports by train to a logistics park, from where they will be dispatched to other parts of the country (upcountry) by trailers.

According to the project details, another dedicated 1.5-kilometre railway link will also be constructed to connect Karachi Port and Port Qasim with the logistics park. In addition, 25 major railway and road bridges, along with six flyovers and grade separators, will be built along the route to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow.

To ensure safety standards, the track will be fully fenced, while a modern centralized automatic signaling system will be installed to facilitate the safe and automated movement of trains.
