Tehran (Sports Desk) Iran has officially announced its participation in the FIFA World Cup 2026. The announcement came at a time when tensions between Iran and the United States were increasing; however, this decision has now ended all uncertainty.
According to the Iranian government, the national football team is fully prepared to participate in the global event, and all necessary arrangements have been finalized.
Government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani told state media that the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs has completed all necessary steps to provide the best facilities for the team so that the players can deliver an outstanding performance on the global stage.
Earlier, some statements attributed to the sports minister had hinted at non-participation, but the recent clarification has ended all speculation.
Meanwhile, despite ongoing regional tensions and recent military developments, Iranian authorities have made it clear that sports activities will not be affected by political circumstances.
It is worth noting that after the recent ceasefire mediated through Pakistan, signs of improvement in the region have emerged, making Iran’s participation even more certain.
On the other hand, according to sources, U.S. President Trump’s special envoy Paolo Zampoli had requested FIFA President Gianni Infantino to replace Iran with four-time world champions Italy in the tournament.
