HugoBank Receives Formal Approval from State Bank to Begin Pilot Operations
Islamabad: Efforts by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) to promote modern financial technology and foreign investment in Pakistan are beginning to yield results. The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has formally approved the launch of controlled pilot operations for HugoBank, a digital retail bank established under a Pakistan-Singapore consortium.
Key Objectives and Operational Scope of the Pilot Phase
Under the State Bank’s regulatory framework, HugoBank will conduct comprehensive testing of its financial systems and security protocols during the pilot phase.
Testing of Technical Systems: Live testing of digital products, payment systems and core banking infrastructure.
Cybersecurity and Performance: Detailed assessment of financial data protection, network security and transaction speed.
Customer Experience: Ensuring a smooth, fast and modern digital banking experience for customers before the nationwide commercial launch.
SIFC’s Key Role and Growing Confidence Among Foreign Investors
HugoBank Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Asim Hassan expressed special appreciation to the SIFC for its timely support and assistance in completing the regulatory process. He noted that the Council’s institutional coordination played an important role in resolving regulatory matters efficiently at various stages.
