Heavy Monsoon Rains Forecast in Balochistan, Risk of Flash Flooding in Rivers and Streams

Islamabad (Web Desk): The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast further heavy monsoon rains accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms in several districts of Balochistan and directed all relevant institutions and administrative authorities to remain on high alert.

According to the latest weather report, monsoon currents and a western weather system are simultaneously affecting the northeastern, eastern and southern parts of the province. As a result, widespread heavy rainfall is expected across large areas of Balochistan during the next few days.

Affected Districts and Intensity of Rainfall

According to the Meteorological Department, thunderstorms and rain, with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations, are expected in the following districts:

Northern and Eastern Districts:

Zhob, Sherani, Barkhan, Musakhel, Loralai, Sibi, Kohlu, Ziarat and Kalat.

Southern and Coastal Districts:

Khuzdar, Naseerabad, Jaffarabad, Sohbatpur, Dera Bugti, Lasbela, Awaran, Turbat, Kech, Panjgur and Gwadar.

Warning of Flash Flooding and Urban Flooding

Heavy rainfall may cause severe flash flooding in mountainous and local rivers and streams.

Urban Flooding:

Water accumulation in low-lying areas and urban centres may create flooding conditions.

The Meteorological Department has directed all provincial and district administrations to complete precautionary arrangements in advance.

Citizens and tourists have also been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly to mountainous regions and areas near rivers and streams.
