Global Investors Eye Pakistan's Technology and Advanced Manufacturing Sectors
Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan is attracting growing international interest in its information technology, advanced manufacturing, and Special Economic Zones (SEZs). Federal Minister for Investment Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh met with a high-level delegation from the UK-China Fund to discuss the establishment of technology parks and the expansion of industrial cooperation across the country.
During the meeting, representatives of the UK-China Fund expressed confidence in Pakistan's rapidly evolving digital economy and conveyed their interest in introducing China's successful technology park model to Pakistan.
Focus on "The Silicon Village" and Semiconductor Manufacturing
The delegation was briefed on the progress of Pakistan's first tax-free technology zone, The Silicon Village, including the development of its first Artificial Intelligence (AI) data center.
The visiting investors highlighted several sectors with strong investment potential:
Advanced Manufacturing:
The delegation identified Pakistan as a promising destination for computer chip packaging, semiconductor manufacturing, and the production of green energy chargers, citing the country's strategic location and emerging industrial base.
Industrial Revival and Manufacturing:
The investors also expressed interest in investment opportunities related to Pakistan Steel Mills, lithium technology, and commercial and industrial zones in Karachi.
Mineral Resources and Special Economic Zones:
Federal Minister Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh briefed the delegation on Pakistan's significant iron ore reserves in Chiniot and the investment opportunities available across the country's Special Economic Zones.
Board of Investment Reaffirms Investor Support
Representatives of Pakistan's Board of Investment assured the delegation that the government remains committed to facilitating foreign investors through a one-window operation, simplifying administrative procedures, and removing bureaucratic hurdles.
The discussions reflect growing international interest in Pakistan's technology sector, advanced manufacturing capabilities, and industrial development, highlighting the country's efforts to position itself as an attractive destination for foreign direct investment.
