Defence Day: Nation Salutes the Immortal Sacrifice of Naik Muhammad Wasim Shaheed
Islamabad — On the solemn occasion of Defence and Martyrs’ Day on September 6, the entire nation is paying rich tribute to the great martyrs and Ghazis who sacrificed their lives for the motherland. Among these distinguished sons of the soil is brave Pakistan Army soldier Naik Muhammad Wasim Shaheed, whose courage and immortal sacrifice are being honoured by the nation today.
On this national day, the family of Naik Muhammad Wasim Shaheed recalled memories of their beloved son and shared deeply moving reflections on his personal life and unwavering spirit of patriotism.
‘There Is No Greater Death in the Universe Than Martyrdom’
For a true soldier, martyrdom is not death but the beginning of eternal life. Naik Wasim Shaheed’s father recalled a memorable incident that reflected his son’s deep faith and devotion.
His father proudly recalled:
“Wasim would often say to me, ‘Father, there is no greater death in the universe than martyrdom.’ I always prayed that Allah would bless you with this honour, and ultimately his heartfelt wish came true.”
Supporting this sentiment, the martyr’s wife said that her husband was always mentally prepared for martyrdom and carried the same passionate spirit with him whenever he left for duty.
An Outstanding Example of Kindness and Compassion
Naik Wasim was not only a fearless soldier but also an exceptionally kind and caring person. His mother, with tears in her eyes, recalled how warmly he treated everyone at home.
She said:
“Wasim would call his sisters every day and always make sure to ask how they were doing.”
Grieving the loss of her husband, his wife said that he had been her strongest source of support.
“He was a wonderful human being and a caring husband who stood by me through every happiness and sorrow. His character and behaviour toward me and all our family members were exceptionally warm and exemplary.”
Today, the peaceful and free life we enjoy is made possible by the sacred blood of brave sons of the soil like Naik Muhammad Wasim Shaheed. Their immortal sacrifices remain a strong foundation of our freedom and national security — a foundation that no enemy can shake.
