Defence Day: Memories of Captain Hamza Akram Shaheed — ‘The WhatsApp Single Tick Never Became a Double Tick’

Islamabad — Under the theme “Our Martyrs, Our Pride,” the entire nation is observing Defence and Martyrs’ Day on September 6 with profound respect and devotion. On this occasion, rich tributes are being paid to the Ghazis and martyrs who repaid their debt to the soil with their blood. Among these great sons of the soil was Captain Hamza Akram Shaheed, who embraced martyrdom while fighting bravely during a difficult operation against terrorists on August 7, 2026.

On Defence Day, the family of Captain Hamza shared memories of their brave son and brother — memories deeply moving enough to bring tears to the eyes.

‘Whenever He Came Home, It Felt Like Eid Had Arrived’

For Captain Hamza’s parents, their son was a symbol of obedience, patience and good character. His father recalled his memories and said:

“Whenever Hamza came home on leave, it felt as though the Eid moon had appeared in our home. He was an extremely patient, obedient and kind-hearted son.”

The martyr’s mother, recalling her son’s remarkable strength and resilience, said that he would endure every hardship quietly and with a smile. Delivering an inspiring message to other mothers, she said:

“All mothers should always prepare their children to defend our beloved homeland.”

A Sister’s Grief and an Unfinished Message

For a sister, the pain of losing a brother is impossible to put into words. According to Captain Hamza’s sister, her brother was not merely a sibling but also her best friend and an exceptionally caring person.

Recalling the heartbreaking moment when she received news of his martyrdom, she said that when the devastating news arrived, their father displayed extraordinary composure and simply said:

“It’s a call from the unit commander.”

Amid hope and uncertainty, the sister made one final attempt to contact her brother.

“I messaged my brother on WhatsApp, but the single tick never became a double tick.”

Today, the peaceful and free life we enjoy is made possible by the sacred blood of brave soldiers like Captain Hamza Akram Shaheed. The entire nation bows its head in respect before these heroes.
