Defence Day and Martyrs’ Ceremony Held in Gujar Khan, Tribute Paid to Heroes of the 1965 War

A dignified ceremony was held in Gujar Khan under the auspices of the Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Society to mark Defence Day and Martyrs’ Day. Rich tributes were paid to all martyrs of the nation, including Naik Muhammad Akhtar Shaheed, who embraced martyrdom on the Chawinda Sector front during the 1965 Pakistan-India war.

Retired military officials, political and social leaders, and families of martyrs attended the ceremony in large numbers. Participants described the security, survival and sovereignty of the country as the result of the immortal sacrifices made by the martyrs.

Addressing the ceremony, Commodore (R) Arshad Mahmood Khan said that the free and sovereign environment in which the nation breathes today is indebted to the blood of these great sons of the soil. Lieutenant General (R) Sajjad Haider said that whenever the defence of the homeland was at stake, brave soldiers from the Potohar region had always played a frontline role and offered the ultimate sacrifice.

Chairman Pakistan Sweet Home Zamurd Khan said that this fertile land has produced true sons of the soil in every era who sacrificed their lives for the country. Tehreek-e-Jawanan-e-Pakistan leader Abdullah Hamid Gul said that it is because of the blood of the martyrs that the nation is able to live with dignity and hold its head high today.

Member of the Provincial Assembly Ziaullah Shah said that whenever the country faced difficult times, the entire nation stood shoulder to shoulder with the Pakistan Armed Forces, while the brave soldiers wrote immortal chapters of courage and bravery on every front.

The ceremony concluded with a special prayer for the elevation of the ranks of the martyrs and for the security and prosperity of Pakistan.
