Construction of Pipri Multi-Logistics Park Accelerated Under Prime Minister’s Task Force

Rs2.46 Billion NLC–DP World Joint Project to Reduce Traffic Pressure on Karachi’s Roads

Karachi: Work on the Pipri Multi-Logistics Park has been accelerated under the supervision of the Prime Minister’s Task Force on Maritime Reforms. The project aims to modernise Pakistan’s cargo transportation system and improve the operational efficiency of the country’s ports.

According to Engineer Altaf Qadir Bajwa, Project Director of NLC Sindh, the major Rs2.46 billion project is being completed through a partnership between the National Logistics Corporation (NLC) and DP World.

Key Features and Modern Infrastructure

A dedicated 1.5-kilometre railway link is being constructed to connect Port Qasim with Karachi Port. A modern railway freight container and logistics park is also being developed at Pipri, featuring warehouses, container storage facilities, vehicle parking areas and administrative blocks.

Large Capacity: A 37,700-square-metre hardstanding area is being developed, with the capacity to accommodate 260 containers and trucks at the same time.

Direct Rail Transportation: Cargo carried by trailers arriving from the country’s northern and inland regions will be transferred at Pipri Park and transported to the ports by rail.

Reduction in Traffic Congestion: Once the project becomes operational, it is expected to eliminate the pressure caused by 250 to 500 heavy trailers entering Karachi every day.

The establishment of the Pipri Multi-Logistics Park will not only accelerate cargo transportation but also improve port connectivity and reduce overall logistics costs. In addition to easing Karachi’s traffic problems, the project is expected to become an important milestone in the development of Pakistan’s maritime trade.
