PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar’s Firm Stand in Assembly: “This country and the army are ours; if meeting with PTI founder is not arranged, there is no point in staying in the House”

Islamabad — Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan, while responding to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s statement in the National Assembly, said that PTI stands with national institutions, but the party is being continuously pushed against the wall. He strongly protested against restrictions on meetings with party founder Imran Khan and also warned of a possible parliamentary boycott.

“The country and the army are ours; do not point fingers at us”

Addressing the National Assembly session, Barrister Gohar presented the party’s stance clearly and rejected any anti-army narrative. He stated:

“This country is ours and the army is also ours. Do not point fingers at us as if we are against the armed forces. We have always stood shoulder to shoulder with our forces. Politics should not be done at the cost of the army. But if we are being hurt, where should we take our grievances?”

He further said that national defense is directly linked to economic and political stability. Without economic and political stability, defense stability cannot be achieved. He also alleged that political instability in the country has been deliberately increased since October.

Ban on meetings with PTI founder: demand for government response

Barrister Gohar raised strong concerns over restrictions on meetings with PTI founder Imran Khan, who is currently in Adiala Jail. He said:

“Despite clear court orders, no one is being allowed to meet the PTI founder. Neither his doctors nor his family are granted access. The Prime Minister must explain under whose instructions this is happening and why meetings are being blocked.”

He issued an ultimatum to the government, demanding equal treatment for PTI and immediate access to Imran Khan. He warned that if meetings are not allowed, the opposition sees no reason to continue sitting in Parliament.

Charter of Democracy and boycott warning

Commenting on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s offer of a Charter of Democracy, he said PTI supports democratic dialogue in principle, but on one hand talks of reconciliation are being made while on the other hand the party is being cornered.

Concluding his speech, he said:

• No positive response has been received from the government, therefore a boycott of parliamentary proceedings has already been announced.
• The party demands clarity on whether meetings with the PTI founder will be allowed or not.
• If political rights and identity are not respected, there is no justification for remaining part of the House.
