New York (Sports Desk) Following public reaction over the rising prices of FIFA World Cup tickets, city mayor Zohran Mamdani has introduced a special discounted ticket scheme for local residents.
Under this scheme, selected citizens will be able to obtain World Cup match tickets for 50 dollars.
According to foreign media reports, around one thousand tickets have been allocated for residents of New York, which will be available for group-stage and knockout matches; however, the final match will not be included in this scheme.
Reports state that the tickets will be distributed through a lottery system to ensure transparency. Approximately 150 seats will be allocated for each match, while successful applicants will be able to purchase a maximum of two tickets.
The scheme also includes transportation facilities to and from the match venue.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani said that the purpose of this initiative is to connect ordinary citizens with a major global sporting event and reduce the disappointment of fans caused by expensive ticket prices.
It is worth noting that World Cup ticket prices and the dynamic pricing system have already faced strong criticism, while various groups are also demanding more discounted facilities for local fans.
