Rawalpindi — The 78th martyrdom anniversary of Captain Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed, the first recipient of Pakistan’s highest military award, the Nishan-e-Haider, is being observed across the country with deep respect, reverence, and a renewed spirit of national courage.

The 1948 Kashmir War and Captain Sarwar’s Exceptional Bravery

After the establishment of Pakistan, Captain Muhammad Sarwar joined the Pakistan Army and served as a company commander in the 2nd Battalion of the Punjab Regiment during the 1948 Kashmir War.

On July 27, 1948, he was assigned the mission of capturing a strategically important and strongly defended enemy position in the Uri Sector. Despite continuous and intense enemy fire, he advanced and personally led the attack.

“While cutting through the barbed-wire obstacles laid by the enemy and continuing to inspire his comrades despite fierce resistance, Captain Sarwar kept advancing. During the assault, a bullet struck him in the chest, and he sacrificed his life for his homeland.”

As a result of the historic assault, the enemy was forced to abandon its position. Captain Muhammad Sarwar was posthumously awarded the Nishan-e-Haider in recognition of his extraordinary courage and sacrifice.

Religious Scholars Pay Tribute and Quran Recitation Ceremonies Held

On Captain Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed’s 78th martyrdom anniversary, Quran recitation gatherings were organized at mosques across Pakistan. Special prayers were offered for the departed souls of Pakistan Army martyrs.
