Broad Peak Tragedy: Bodies of Five Foreign Mountaineers Flown from Skardu to Islamabad

Islamabad, August 7, 2026: The bodies of five foreign mountaineers who lost their lives in an avalanche on Broad Peak have been respectfully transported from Skardu to Islamabad aboard a special aircraft. The bodies were wrapped in the flags of their respective countries.

Joint Operation by Pakistan Army and Ground Search Teams

It may be recalled that on July 31, an avalanche struck Broad Peak, the world’s 12th-highest mountain located near K2, leaving 10 foreign mountaineers missing. Yesterday, Pakistan Army Aviation helicopters, along with professional ground search teams, conducted a joint rescue and recovery operation under extremely difficult and challenging conditions and successfully recovered the bodies of five mountaineers.

Transfer to Embassies and Repatriation to Home Countries

Upon arrival in Islamabad, the bodies will be formally handed over to diplomatic officials of the respective countries after completion of all necessary documentation and legal procedures. Arrangements will then be made to transport the remains to their home countries.

The Pakistan Army, in coordination with the civil administration and foreign embassies, is continuing to provide full cooperation in all matters related to the recovery, transportation, documentation, and repatriation of the deceased mountaineers.
