Broad Peak Avalanche: Bodies of Two Climbers Recovered, Rescue Operation Continues

Skardu / Gilgit — A joint ground and aerial search operation by the Pakistan Army and civilian rescue teams is continuing at full pace to locate mountaineers who went missing after being struck by an avalanche while attempting to summit Broad Peak, the second-highest mountain in the Karakoram Range.

Pakistan Army and Civilian Teams Conduct Joint Search Mission

According to rescue officials, two bodies have so far been recovered during the search for 10 climbers who went missing following the accident on Broad Peak a day earlier.

The bodies were airlifted to Skardu by helicopter, where the final identification process is underway.

During the same operation, an Italian climber who became critically ill while participating in a K2 expedition was successfully rescued by a Pakistan Army helicopter and transferred to a safe location.

International Climbing Team and Operational Details

Search Mission Leadership: Renowned Pakistani mountaineer Sirbaz Khan is leading the ground-based rescue and search mission.

International Team: The missing group includes climbers from the United States, China, Nepal and Oman, as well as Pakistani mountaineer Sohail Sakhi.

Aerial and Ground Support: Pakistan Army Aviation helicopters are conducting aerial surveillance and supporting rescue activities, while civilian rescue teams are providing full assistance in the ground search operation.
