Barren Lands Cultivated with Support from the Green Pakistan Initiative
Modern Technology and Guidance Transform Barren Areas into Productive Farms
Islamabad: With the effective support and strategic planning of the Green Pakistan Initiative (GPI), efforts to convert barren land into cultivable farmland are progressing rapidly across the country. This initiative is not only increasing agricultural production but also creating new employment opportunities in rural areas.
Along with providing land to farmers, GPI is also offering modern technical guidance, resulting in a clear improvement in crop management and agricultural quality.
Success Story of the “Mehnat Kash Naujawan” Farm
According to Asim Awan, owner of the “Mehnat Kash Naujawan” farm, the land provided two years ago was completely barren but has since been cultivated using modern farming methods.
He said:
“We have developed 80 percent of the barren land, where wheat, chickpeas and canola are currently being cultivated successfully. This produce will soon reach Pakistani markets and will help the country reduce imports and increase exports.”
Employment Opportunities: More than 100 families are benefiting from the project, while between 700 and 800 labourers receive employment during the harvesting season.
Satellite-Based Guidance: GPI teams use satellite data to keep farmers informed about crop health, seed selection and international agricultural trends.
Sustainable Agricultural Development: The cultivation of barren land is helping Pakistan move towards food self-sufficiency.
Modern Agricultural Technology and a Vision for a Brighter Future
Asim Awan further stated that GPI teams continue to provide guidance at every stage, from the allocation of land to the cultivation and management of crops. Modern technical assistance has also enabled farmers to access global agricultural knowledge and information.
He expressed confidence that:
“This is not merely the success of one individual, but a success for the whole of Pakistan. Following this joint initiative by the government and GPI, no region of the country will remain barren in the future.”
