QUETTA: The Government of Balochistan has signed a landmark agreement with the State Life Insurance Corporation of Pakistan (SLIC) to launch the “Peoples Health Programme,” a province-wide health insurance initiative aimed at providing comprehensive cashless medical coverage to more than 350,000 government employees, pensioners, and their families.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony was attended by Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti, Provincial Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar, and SLIC Chief Executive Officer Shoaib Javed Hussain.
The agreement was formally signed by Secretary Health Balochistan Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Panezai and Mohammad Ashar, Divisional Head Health and Accident Insurance at SLIC.
Speaking at the ceremony, Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar said the Peoples Health Programme introduces a fully digital and cashless healthcare system, replacing the traditional manual reimbursement process.
He said the programme would allow government employees and their families to access treatment at more than 1,000 empanelled public and private hospitals across Pakistan.
Kakar added that the initiative would improve administrative efficiency and help reduce delays through a technology-driven healthcare system.
SLIC CEO Shoaib Javed Hussain said the corporation was honoured to implement the programme in collaboration with the Balochistan government.
He stated that SLIC’s nationwide healthcare network, digital claims management system, and operational infrastructure would help ensure transparent and uninterrupted healthcare services throughout the province.
Under the programme, eligible families will receive annual health insurance coverage through a fully cashless inpatient treatment system.
Beneficiaries will have access to general and specialised healthcare facilities included in SLIC’s nationwide hospital network.
Officials said the initiative is aimed at improving healthcare accessibility and strengthening public welfare services across Balochistan.
