Major Measures Introduced in Balochistan to Address Population Growth
Family Planning Supplies Distributed Across Districts; Digital Tracking App Launched
Quetta: The Population Welfare Department of the Government of Balochistan, in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), has launched a comprehensive strategy to address rapid population growth and modernize the family planning system across the province. Long-term plans were approved during a consultative meeting of the Family Planning Working Group held in Quetta, with the objective of extending public health services to underserved and remote areas.
Supplies Delivered to All Districts and Mobile Application Introduced
According to officials of the Population Welfare Department, essential family planning supplies have been successfully distributed to all districts of Balochistan. To ensure the sustainability of the program, substantial funds have also been allocated in the upcoming fiscal year's budget.
For the first time in the province, modern technology is being utilized to establish a paperless monitoring system:
- Field staff have received formal training in the use of the Electronic Client Record (ECR) Mobile Application.
- Nine master trainers have been prepared to expand the digital system across all districts of the province.
Role of Religious Scholars and Community Awareness Campaigns
Director General Population Welfare Department Ghulam Mustafa and Deputy Secretary Abdul Basit stated that active participation by religious scholars, local leaders, and all stakeholders is essential to address the challenges arising from rapid population growth. In this regard, awareness campaigns are being launched at the Union Council level to educate communities about fundamental rights and public health principles.
Commitment of International Support: UNFPA Provincial Coordinator Dr. Saadia Atta reaffirmed that her organization remains fully committed to providing technical and financial assistance to the Population Welfare Department and the Health Department of Balochistan. The objective is to ensure that family planning services and maternal and child healthcare facilities reach even the most remote parts of the province.
