Balochistan Chief Minister Vows Prison Reforms and Rehabilitation of Inmates

Quetta — Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has said that protecting the rights of prisoners is a key part of the province’s justice system, adding that meaningful prison reforms can help make the entire judicial process more transparent and effective.

In a special press statement, the Chief Minister said the state has a primary responsibility to ensure the protection of prisoners’ basic human rights in every possible way.

He emphasized that prisons should not remain merely places of punishment, but must be transformed into reform and rehabilitation centers. He said practical steps are necessary so that individuals who complete their sentences can leave the world of crime behind and return to society as useful citizens.

“The reform, mental rehabilitation, and dignified reintegration of prisoners into society are among our priorities,” the Chief Minister said.

The provincial government has outlined several key priorities to accelerate the prison reform agenda.

Technical and vocational education will be introduced inside prisons so that inmates can learn practical skills.

Educational facilities will be expanded under the prison manual to remove obstacles faced by prisoners in obtaining basic and higher education.

Mental health support and counselling will also be arranged through specialists to help prisoners with psychological and emotional rehabilitation.
