Balochistan Assembly Unanimously Approves Rs 1,189 Billion Provincial Budget

Quetta: The Balochistan Assembly has unanimously approved the provincial budget of Rs 1,189 billion for the fiscal year 2026-27. During the budget session, the opposition did not submit any cut motions, resulting in the smooth approval of all 118 demands for grants by a majority vote.

The concluding session of the assembly, chaired by Speaker Captain (Retired) Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, began 40 minutes later than scheduled. Provincial Finance Minister Mir Shoaib Ahmed Nosherwani presented the demands for grants one by one, all of which were approved by the house.

Under the approved budget, Rs 797.808 billion has been allocated for non-development expenditures to cover administrative and operational expenses, while Rs 291 billion has been earmarked for development projects aimed at improving infrastructure and public welfare across the province.

Among non-development expenditures, the highest allocations were made for law and order, health, and education. Police and Balochistan Constabulary received Rs 87.18 billion, the Health Department Rs 86.77 billion, while boys’ schools, girls’ schools, and higher and technical education received substantial funding. Additionally, Rs 100 billion has been set aside for pension payments and employee benefits.

Under the development budget, major allocations include Rs 27.06 billion for Communication, Works and Housing, Rs 15.94 billion for Science and Information Technology, Rs 12.75 billion for Irrigation, Rs 7.61 billion for Public Health Engineering, and Rs 5.38 billion for Energy projects. The new provincial budget will come into effect on July 1, 2026.
