5.1-Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Quetta and Several Districts of Balochistan

Quetta: Strong earthquake tremors were felt on Friday afternoon in the provincial capital Quetta and several districts of Balochistan, triggering panic among residents. People rushed out of their homes and offices while reciting prayers.

According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC), the tremors were also clearly felt in Zhob, Barkhan, Rakhni, Kohlu, and surrounding areas.

Epicenter and Technical Details

The Pakistan Meteorological Department's National Seismic Monitoring Centre released the following details:

Magnitude: The earthquake measured 5.1 on the Richter scale.

Epicenter: The epicenter was located 60 kilometers northeast of Kohlu District in Balochistan.

Depth: The earthquake occurred at a depth of 17 kilometers, making the tremors more noticeable at the surface due to its relatively shallow depth.

Latest Situation

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and local administration are assessing the situation in the affected districts.

According to initial reports, no loss of life or property has been reported so far. However, the administration has directed all relevant departments to remain on high alert.
