New Delhi (Monitoring Desk): Unrest continues in the Indian state of Manipur, with tensions escalating amid criticism of the Modi government’s policies. The central government appears to be struggling to contain the violence and restore law and order in the region.

According to a report by Indian publication India Today, nine people have been killed so far in fresh clashes between the Kuki and Naga communities in the state. The report stated that a new wave of violence erupted following the killing of a mother of five and a 22-year-old woman by unidentified armed individuals. During the ongoing confrontations between armed groups, enraged individuals reportedly set at least 10 houses on fire.

Meanwhile, international human rights experts say the repeated outbreaks of violence in Manipur highlight serious concerns about the authorities’ ability to protect civilians and maintain the rule of law in the state.
