UN Report Exposes Killing and Recruitment of Children in Afghanistan
New York (Monitoring Desk): The future of Afghanistan’s younger generation has been overshadowed by serious violations of children’s fundamental rights, insecurity and rising poverty under the Taliban administration. A recent special report by the UN Secretary-General has highlighted disturbing cases of children being killed, permanently disabled and exploited for terrorist activities in Afghanistan.
The report reveals that unlawful and inhumane restrictions on the rights of Afghan boys and girls remain in place under the current administration. According to the figures, more than 4,582 grave violations against children were recorded in Afghanistan between January 2023 and December 2025.
During the same period, more than 1,415 children were reportedly killed or permanently disabled. Of particular concern, incidents involving the recruitment and use of children for militant and terrorist activities increased by a staggering 81 percent.
International experts say the growing number of serious crimes against innocent children and their exploitation for military purposes raise grave concerns about the Taliban administration’s ability to protect children and prevent such abuses.
