Manipur Violence: 24,000 Displaced People Deprived of Basic Facilities in Relief Camps
The government-run relief camps established for people displaced by ethnic violence in India’s Manipur state have turned from shelters into centers of severe hardship and renewed suffering.
According to a ground report by Indian publication Deccan Herald, the temporary shelters are overcrowded, with residents facing food shortages, lack of access to clean drinking water and a severe shortage of medical facilities. Due to alleged government neglect, around 24,000 displaced people are currently being forced to live in desperate conditions without access to basic necessities.
International human rights experts say the deteriorating conditions in the relief camps have exposed the state government’s alleged failure and indifference, highlighting the severity of the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Manipur.
