India’s Bulldozer Campaign Continues, Historic Madina Mosque Demolished in Delhi
New Delhi — Allegations of discriminatory actions against Muslims and the demolition of historic Muslim properties in India continue amid claims that such measures are being carried out under the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) alleged Hindutva agenda.
According to a report by Turkish broadcaster TRT, the Madina Mosque in Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh area was demolished by bulldozers under the cover of darkness. Local residents alleged that the demolition was carried out hastily despite worshippers and other people being present inside the building, triggering fear, grief and anger among members of the Muslim community.
Meanwhile, an investigative report by US-based broadcaster Muslim Network TV claimed that more than 2,100 Muslim places of worship, shrines and private properties across India have been demolished over the past six years as part of what it described as a systematic bulldozer campaign.
According to the report, at least 17 mosques, religious seminaries and shrines were also attacked and set on fire during the 2020 Delhi riots. The report said these incidents highlighted serious concerns over the security of minorities, particularly Muslim religious sites, in India.
