Fundamental Human Rights Curtailed Under Taliban Rule, Genocide Watch Report
Kabul (Monitoring Desk): The Taliban regime in Afghanistan has imposed sweeping restrictions on political and civil rights, dissolved state institutions and introduced arbitrary interpretations of laws.
International human rights organisation Genocide Watch has expressed serious concern over the deteriorating human rights situation in Afghanistan in its latest report, highlighting disturbing findings. According to the report, journalists, ordinary citizens and former government employees are facing arbitrary arrests and inhumane punishments.
The report reveals that more than 449 people were subjected to public corporal punishment during the first six months of this year, while over 777 people were allegedly detained and imprisoned unlawfully.
Human rights experts say the Taliban government’s repressive measures and hard-line policies have severely undermined the fundamental freedoms, social rights and economic autonomy of ordinary citizens.
