Another alleged indication of cross-border terrorism from Afghanistan into Pakistan has emerged, with reports raising further questions about alleged support for militant groups operating in the region by the Afghan Taliban government.

According to Afghan media reports, a condolence ceremony was held in Afghanistan in memory of Afghan militant Safatullah, who was reportedly killed during a security forces operation in Pakistan. During the ceremony, the militant, who was allegedly involved in terrorist activities in Pakistan, was described as a “hero commander.” Banners and posters bearing the flags of Fitna al-Khawarij were also prominently displayed at the venue.

According to defence and regional affairs experts, the public commemoration of militants on Afghan soil, the organisation of condolence ceremonies and the open display of flags associated with a banned organisation point to alleged links between the Afghan interim government and Fitna al-Khawarij.

The situation has also raised concerns over allegations that groups accused of destabilising neighbouring countries continue to receive support from within Afghanistan.
