Attacks in Kandahar and Helmand Leave Two Dead, Including Taliban Commander
Kabul: Armed operations against the Taliban administration in Afghanistan have reportedly intensified, with recent attacks in the southern provinces of Kandahar and Helmand leaving Taliban personnel dead and wounded, according to claims by an anti-Taliban armed group.
According to details released by the Afghanistan United Front, Taliban commander Izzatullah was killed during an operation in Dand district of Kandahar. In another targeted attack in Kandahar’s Arghandab district, a Taliban intelligence official was also killed.
The group further claimed that a hand-grenade attack was carried out on a prison in Helmand province, killing a Taliban administration official and seriously injuring two others.
According to the armed group and defence observers cited in the report, public dissatisfaction with Taliban rule is increasing, while the reported rise in armed resistance reflects growing opposition to the administration. These claims could not be independently verified.
