66-Kilometre Astore-Skardu Road Completed, Marking Major Milestone by Pakistan Army
Gilgit: The Pakistan Army has completed another major public welfare and connectivity project in Gilgit-Baltistan, constructing a 66-kilometre road from Shagma Astore to Mantho Skardu through challenging terrain in a record time.
The completion of the new road has significantly reduced the previously long and difficult journey between Astore and Skardu to just a few hours. With the completion of the Shagma-Mantho Road, direct and permanent road connectivity has also been restored between eight underdeveloped villages in the Phutaks Valley of Gultari and their district headquarters.
The important project is expected to provide a major boost to the local economy, agriculture, trade and livestock transportation between Astore and Skardu, helping accelerate economic activity in the region.
According to defence experts and local community elders, the Pakistan Army’s role in the development of remote areas alongside its responsibility for national defence reflects its stated commitment to the social and economic development of underserved communities.
